Yeovil International Literary Prize 2024

On August 26, I received a top secret email saying that my manuscript had won second place in the Yeovil Literary Prize 2024, and that I was to keep the news under my hat for a month. What a thrill. I was over the moon.

But especially so because the judge, children’s author Kiran Millwood Hargrave, had written this: “The Nighthawk Detectives [working title] has some of the best descriptors I’ve ever read.” She also described the plot as delicious. I was chuffed to bits.

Many months later, the glow has faded. But these are nice sentences to read when the work seems never-ending and the goal far, far away.
