Sentences

Sometimes a sentence really strikes me and I stop and reread it a few times. This morning I was reading Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club and stopped at this short paragraph.

‘To the cemetery?’ A slight shiver runs down Elizabeth’s spine. How wonderful the world can be at times! (The Thursday Murder Club, p.201)

Dialogue. Physical reaction. Internal thought. Character insight, with twist or surprise. Humour. Subverting norms. Signpost to next scene.

Pretty good, huh?!

I think it’s a nice example to learn from.
